North Idaho Yaak Gold Mining & Family Camp
July 21 - July 23
Join Idaho Backcountry Veterans July 21-23 on the Yaak River in Western Montana
on our gold placer claims for a weekend of gold prospecting! All equipment for the
event is provided, but you are welcome to bring any pans and equipment you might
have. This event is open to veterans and their families and is a family oriented event.
As such excessive drinking is not tolerated.
This event is limited to 8 participants and each group leader is required to make
contact with Chris Stoehner at (575)937-5477, or email at stoehnercd@gmail.com
prior to the event. If you do not make contact we will assume you are not coming.
There is zero cell service available at the gold claims so your understanding of how
to get to the claims is your responsibility! High clearance four wheel drive vehicles
are necessary to access the mining camp road.
Each group is responsible for providing their own camping gear, chairs, and cold
weather gear. Please note the weather can be unpredictable and you are encouraged
to prepare for wet and cold weather. Also understand that this is Grizzly bear
country and food must be stored away, preferably in vehicles. Firearms are
encouraged, but bear spray is mandatory; responsible use of firearms is strictly
enforced and there will be no shooting at this event. Each group in attendance is
responsible for their own food with the exception that Saturday night we provide
dinner and Sunday morning we will provide a group breakfast.
Each group must enter the names of family members attending with you in the time
slots available. Camp setup and orientation will be on Friday afternoon beginning at
1400 hours and camp teardown and cleanup will begin Sunday around 1500 hours.
Those who are late arrivals will also receive orientation and camp rules, so don’t
worry if you can’t make it until the evening. If you decide you cannot make it to the
event please notify us by Thursday May 25 so we are not looking for you up and
down the Yaak River Road.
Directions:
From Highway 2 West of Troy, Montana turn North onto Yaak River Road 508.
Follow the road for 5.8 Miles to a small and indiscernible mining road. Turn right
and follow the road down to the camp area along the river. The road will be marked
with three successive streamers of red flagging tape stating Danger.
